How to read this map
Each coloured shape is the area closest to one colonia's centre point, grouped into five zones by direction from the Plaza Grande. The dark line is the Anillo Periférico, the ring road around the city. Shapes are approximate: official colonia limits are drawn by the Ayuntamiento in its geoportal, and street addresses in Mérida use the colonia name plus a street grid (odd-numbered streets run north–south, even-numbered ones east–west).
Using it: zoom in to see the streets, tick hospitals, malls, supermarkets or universities to show them, and select a colonia to see its nearest hospital, mall and supermarket with the straight-line distance, plus how far it is from Plaza Grande. On your phone, “Which colonia am I in?” finds your colonia from your location; your position stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere.

Colonia, fraccionamiento, privada: what the words mean
A colonia is a named neighbourhood and part of every address. A fraccionamiento is a planned housing development, usually newer. A privada is a gated development with controlled access, common in the north. When a listing says "Privada X, Temozón", it means a gated complex in that area.
How we made this map
The colonia points come from OpenStreetMap, and we added the Centro barrios and a few established colonias that OpenStreetMap lacks, placed at their main park or plaza. The shapes are a Voronoi diagram of those points, clipped to the urban area. Many small fraccionamientos are not on the map yet; if yours is missing or misplaced, tell us.
